Our slightly tongue in cheek guide to events in June around the UK

27 May 2016|4 minute read

Amazing Andy and his cute little fuzzy balls are just a June sideshow in 2016!

Now normally at this time on a Friday afternoon in late May I’d already be talking a load of balls… and of course the balls I WOULD HAVE BEEN talking about were of the fuzzy yellow variety (see pic above)…and you knew that!  Because naturally I’m talking about the approaching arrival of those 2 wondrously white weeks of madness that are commonly known in these parts as the Wimbledon Fortnight! (27th June - 10th July)

But alas, even though I realise that that uber-glam event (and the promise of tickets to it) holds the power to stop conversations in their tracks, we must take our leave of the divine confines of SW19 and Court Number One for the present and divert our attention instead elsewhere…to an event taking place that is in fact (and I know this seems hardly possible) EVEN MORE IMPORTANT than that one…dun-dun-Daaah!

“How...what…where…!!!?” I hear you ask, in complete confusion.

Do not worry, friends. All will be explained in 4 simple words.

The. Queen’s. Ninetieth. Birthday.

NOW do you get it?

Yes, this global mega-event tops our list of … THINGS TO DO IN JUNE 2016 IN THE UK.

The Queen’s official birthday takes place on the 11th June and is usually quite an understated affair with a few (hundred) horses and some (battalions of) soldiers milling about at the somewhat bizarrely named Trooping of the Colour however because of the special significance of this birthday, expect a few more bells and whistles (not like us plebs would have mind you, but Queenie-style - so expect fast jets, Spitfires, street parties and a few flags!)

So how would the Queen’s grandchildren Princess Beatrice and Eugenie spend their June?

Once the party’s over one expects there’ll be like, an after-party event, right Eugenie? So like, where does one go for a bit of post-party razzamatazz darling? OMG Bea, I’ve got it, grandmummy always does Ascot Races after for a flutter!  Yes, that’s right - get one’s posh frock on, and I know it’s vulgar, but bring some cash sweetie!  The 14th of June already? Oh my God, those commoners are right, time really does fly when one’s having fun! Hurry now!

And oh yes, one had better bring a change of clothes and those boaters stuffed at the back of ones cupboard if one’s going straight on to Henley! (29th June to 3rd July)

More events B, E & Q are unlikely to attend pre or post QB90:

The Keswick Beer Festival (Bea - Is beer like champagne for commoners?)
3rd - 4th June in the Lake District

The Cheltenham Science Festival  (Eugenie – One does love science and the way they get those bubbles in champers is just so clever!)
7th - 12th June - stay at a Cheltenham Serviced Apartment

The Edinburgh International Film Festival (Bea - grandmummy has a castle up there so one will feel right at home)
15th - 26th June - stay at an Edinburgh Serviced Apartment

National Take your dog to work day 24th June (Eugenie - What’s ‘work’? Is it just too, too horrid for words darling? I love grandmummy’s Corgies though!)

Events B & E are likely to attend pre or post QB90:

National Donut Day 3rd June (B - so scrummy don’t you think?)

OMG, The Download festival at Donington! 10th - 12th June (E & B - reminder to oneself, not too much Pimms and Boys…must get back for grandmummy’s B-day!)

Pride in London (Queens galore and such fun!)
10th - 26th June - stay at a London Serviced Apartment

As you’re very probably a commoner however, and you almost certainly don’t have to mind your B’s and Q’s…why not try and take in as many of these wonderful June events as possible!
